A LITTLE ABOUT MY JOURNEYAbout 2 years ago there was some talk about how my sister and her husband were working on a web site, theirs is www.make-my-own-house.com . Now, I am a Landscape Contractor and I have been thinking of creating a web site about my business for some time and I was curious about that. I had even traded some work with one of my customers who builds websites for a living. -problem was he wanted $500 just to register the domain name www.baxterlandscapesinc and I could see that I could realistically spend 4-5 thousand creating a site for my business. If you type that url in your computer you'll see that nothing ever happened. Landscapers are poor. Anyway back to my sister Lorena and her husband Larry. These guys were so kind as to help me get started with this web site. Now I know what your thinking, I'm lucky cause my brother in law is a website builder and I dont't have to pay all that money. Well, he (they) actually just showed me how to do it using the SITE BUILD IT WEB BUILDING SYSTEM . By combining an extremely user friendly website creation system with my knowledge and great pictures of landscaping, I have been, and continue to be, able to create this website a little at a time in my spare time. And the Initial cost is only $350 per year or about a dollar a day, that is what drew me in on this web site is the inexpensive cost and the ability for me to learn how to do this myself. Site build it is a web site that enables dummies like me to create a website that rocks. O.K. maybe this website doesn't rock but It sure is fun for me. Being able to show the world literally the whole world some of the projects I've created and designed. Makes me happy. Also I can use this site in my business to show examples of projects and ideas for landscaping to my customers in real time on line while I'm talking with them on the phone. Even better, site build it teaches a builder how to attract the search engines and create the traffic that everybody spends all that money to get. By creating an information site you can attract the ad sponsors of the internet and invite them to put ads on your site. And of course when someone buys from those ads ya get paid $. Wait that sounds sort of like a work from home INTERNET BUISINESS doesn't it. Well you do work and then you get paid for it, so I guess it is a business. I tell you it sure is fun coming in here on my computer every morning and looking to see how many of you found my web site and how many pages you looked at. The numbers get bigger every day. Oh, ya back to my story, so I did the initial work in about a 10 day period of time about a year ago and put on every thing I had, pictures, descriptions, stories, ect. And then I got really busy at work and had to leave the website alone for a while. In fact I didn't touch it for about 9 months and would you believe it still kept growing in numbers even though. So anyway last fall when things slowed back down I started back working on the website and added about 10 new pages and all of the things or ideas that I had sold during the last 9 months. I'm learning more and more every time I jump in here and mess around with this program. Thats the cool thing, you can alway change anything in a web site and you can do it anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer and the internet service. So thats the story of this website so-far and you can bet there will be lots more cool pictures and design examples added throughout the year. Do you have an Island of expertise?
